The map is not the territory, but the mapmaker still gets tired. You have drawn these roads with your hands so many times the lines are worn into you. Somewhere under the cartography is a person who wanted to be traveled with, not just useful. That wanting is not a flaw in the instrument. It is the whole reason you built the map.
